About Our Lady of La Mirada
Our Lady of the Gaze is a sculpture born from the heart of St. Clare's writings. Clare continually speaks to us of looking at Jesus Christ in order to be able to walk the path of happiness.
The fraternity of the Poor Sisters wanted to reflect in the Virgin of the Gaze that woman who spent her whole life looking at Jesus, to be able to follow Him and accompany Him in all the moments of her life. The beauty of the sculpture is that Jesus would also look at his mother in many moments of his life, especially in those moments when he needed to feel supported and consoled.
A mother's gaze transforms, invades, sustains.
Picking up the idea of the gaze, Javier Viver, the artist in charge of the project, was able to transfer it to that moment in which a mother lifts her child and they face each other in that maternal moment.
A look that whoever looks at it can contemplate from any angle of the sculpture. The gaze of Jesus that brings us closer to Mary and the gaze of Mary that brings us closer to God.
